Techblox Gameplay Discussion - Dev Blog #4
Updated: Apr 14
We've seen comments in general chat about the gameplay Techblox will offer. Whether it will be a pure sandbox or if it'll be focused on battling like Robocraft. We wanted to explain our intentions: • The most important part will be the incredibly powerful sandbox. Getting the building system, destruction system, wiring, logic, realistic physics, as well as graphical style and quality right will be our first priority. Everything sits on top of these foundations. • Then we'll introduce a map editor and multiplayer (with friends initially), so you can invent your own fun within the sandbox. • Then, we’ll expose the gameplay making tools we had in Gamecraft so YOU could create logic and multiplayer gameplay then share and play with others. More structured gameplay will begin to come from the community. In Gamecraft the community began to build robot battling arena's and logic to play small scale robot battles. • Then we'll begin to add more structured 'official game modes'. The most obvious thing is to offer dedicated online servers where users can take their creations into these game modes and play against others. It'll make sense for some game modes to include battling of some kind as well as many other kinds of things you may want to do with vehicles and machines.
For Techblox to succeed long term, it'll need to grow the community as it goes, from super-early-adopters who can find fun in the power of the sandbox initially, to the wider core gaming fraternity who won't play a game until it has fully structured, polished, online multiplayer game modes.
This will take a long time. As it develops, you in the community will do things that we did not expect, and you will make suggestions which will steer the project's course. If Techblox does manage to grow big and hit the wider gaming community, the end product will be as much as a result of the community that helped make it, as it will from Freejam's own development input.
