Plans For The First Build - Dev Blog #9

We wanted to share some info on our plans for sharing initial playable Techblox builds. We’re going to be shaping the game off Steam with YOU via a game launcher. We’ll continue to grow the game outside of Steam and we’ll eventually decide whether to continue independently or to launch on Steam or even the Epic store (or both) at a later date.
We’re planning to begin by creating a Techblox website where players will be able to create an account. Accounts will be used to log into Techblox and can eventually store various information like inventory and purchases.
If Techblox does gain enough interest to release on other platforms, we would like to have accounts and purchases work cross platform across Android, iOS, Playstation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. We’d love to see our games eventually on console and mobile in some form. So building Techblox with these options in mind from the start makes sense
We are going to be using a service called Xsolla. We previously used this for Robocraft before we launched on Steam. Xsolla is used by various studios and publishers including Hi-Rez Studios, Ubisoft, 505 games, Epic and more. It’s a versatile tool that will allow us to handle things like:
- Creation of in game accounts
- Purchases made in game - Cross platform inventory management
- Game Launcher
We still have quite some time to go before we are ready to share details on the first playable build so stay tuned! Additionally, on the Discord server we’ve introduced a new role called “Pit Crew”. This is a role to recognise some of our most engaged community members, those who talk with us regularly about the development of Techblox and are sharing ideas regularly. I’ll be continuing to add new members to this role over time to members who are active and are creating great discussions within the Discord.
