Engine Sound - Dev Blog #27

Updated: Apr 14

Today we wanted to talk about engine sounds in Techblox in a little more detail. Please note this is all still work in progress.

One key point is that the engine is physically simulated with varying torques and gear ratios. The wheels provide feedback to the engine, such as how fast they are spinning, which would then change the engine sounds and torques etc.

The engine sounds are from a recorded real world engine at different rev ranges which are then blended together, rather than a single recording that we change the pitch of. The engine we’re using is actually recorded from three different areas inside the cockpit, inside the engine compartment and at the exhaust, these are also blended together.

However, If you’re applying the accelerator as the engine is under heavy load, the exhaust sound will be more prominent.

We still have more work to do on this and we’ll be sharing further development as we progress.

A playable Pre-Pre-Pre-Pre-Pre-Alpha is now available! Make sure to visit our home page at http://www.techblox.com/ to sign up to play it!
